It's time to create user accounts

As far as I can see our site hosts the largest collection of interactive ESL multiple-choice questions. We currently have more than 25.000 questions in our database and this number is constantly growing. In addition our users can choose from a large variety of reading materials to improve their comprehension skills and learn new facts and information. It would take tens of hours for one single person to study and digest all the material available on english.best. On EB you get free access to content that is worth more than $200k.

Attached to our site is the forum which runs on an external system called ‘Discourse’. We need to better integrate both our site and the forum since most forum users are not aware of the site and vice versa. Yesterday, the site and the forum had more than 14.4k sessions which means it has become quite popular.

Now, since users are confronted with this huge amount of rather unstructured content most of them are overwhelmed by the sheer size of the site and give up. Our brains can only digest a certain amount of information at one time and if you arrive at english.best for the first time you get helplessly lost. The solution is obvious: We need to offer our users the option to create their own personal accounts.

These are main benefits of having your own user account as learner:

  1. First of all, you get a clear idea of the total amount of material available to you for free. If you log in to your account for the first time you will see a display of all the different types of exercises as well as the topics covered. This helps you understand what skills exactly you will be able to develop and improve using english.best. You will also get an idea of how long it might take you to complete each of the exercises and you will see the progress you are making with each session. The progress report in your user account works like a navigation system inside the english.best.

  2. Find out your current level of English. When you take our English language skills test you immediately receive an assessment of your current level based on CEFR which has the international standard nowadays. You can take the test multiple times within a certain period of time to gauge the progress you are making.

  3. Your user account tells you how good your English is in comparison with other learners and speakers of English as a second language throughout the world. Since english.best is used by people from more than 200 countries and territories you can engage in friendly and progressive competition with your peers from around the world. Learning a language is a like doing a sport where healthy competition is the driving force behind any progress.

  4. Based on your progress you will receive individualized support via text and audio messages.

Your user account will have the following parts and elements:

  • Your assessment test activity (When you took the test, your results, when you repeated the test and how you scored each time.)

  • Your ranking in comparison with other EB users.

  • Your progress report (How many questions have you answered so far, how many of them have you answered correctly, which questions have you answered multiple times, how much time have you spent exercising in total, how many sessions have you completed so far, etc.)

  • Your purchase history. (What products have you purchased so far through our store).

  • Your forum activity.
