Simple past tense after simple present

Is this sentence grammatically correct?
“As the curtain falls on their marriage, they both moved on to other partners.”

I saw it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dBHGz2Iq-c

but I think it is not correct. Indeed I think it could be:

  • As the curtain falls on their marriage, they both move on to other partners.

or

  • As the curtain fell on their marriage, they both moved on to other partners.

I agree that the original sentence is wrong. Either of your sentences will work.

By the way, “The curtain falls” is not a common idiom. I have probably read it when writers are being creative, but I don’t know if I have ever heard it spoken.

I agree with the previous comment by NearlyNapping about the use of the Simple Present and the Simple Past with “as” and also with the comment about the phrase “the curtain falls”.

In addition, in the YouTube video, sentence number 4 is also wrong; “… a symbol of the curtain falling …” is the correct form. You should expect Verb+ -ing after a preposition (“of”).
