Should it be 4.30 instead of 4.30 am?

The 49-year-old was found unresponsive in the resort’s Martin Ros Street near the raucous Punta Ballena strip after the alarm was raised around 4.30am this morning.

Should it be 4.30 instead of 4.30 am?

Thanks.

Yes, it should be 4.30. The use of ‘am’ is redundant in this context. am= in the morning, pm= afternoon + the rest of the day, evening until midnight.

I agree with Masme that it is redundant as written.

But…

“This morning” is a relative time. It has no meaning without knowing when this was said or written. It’s like saying “two hours ago”. It has no meaning unless you know when “now” is.

Unless this will only be read on the same day it was written, I would suggest using a date instead of “this morning”. With a date, you should use ‘am’ or one of the many variations.

the alarm was raised around 4.30am on June 28.

All of the following are accepted. Publishers have different style guides. All of the following are used with various publishers and news organizations.

4:30 a.m.
4:30 am
4:30am
4:30AM
4:30 A.M.
4:30 AM

The upper case letters might actually be smaller subscripts, but this site does not have that BB code.

around 4.30 am this morning.
Yes, 04.30 am and this morning are redundant.
So,
"The 49-year-old was found unresponsive in the resort’s Martin Ros Street near the raucous Punta Ballena strip after the alarm was raised around 4.30 this morning.
or
The 49-year-old was found unresponsive in the resort’s Martin Ros Street near the raucous Punta Ballena strip after the alarm was raised around 4.30 am today. is correct.
