If you tell the officers you want a lawyer they are supposed to stop questioning you and book you . If you have a lawyer you’ll be able to contact them. If you do not you can apply for a public defender. You may not see them until arraignment.
Most people don’t have a criminal defense attorney on retainer.
Should it be “questioning you and booking you” instead?
