Hi Naufragis, let’s take it one step at a time, we’re getting to those as … as/as if constructions. In this course we are trying to cover all the basics for people who have just started to learn English. I’ll give your question some thought and will let you know of the outcome in a separate message.[YSaerTTEW443543]
I only thought about confirming a plot to those who are able of understanding by meaning already, but also still have problems to use their already known basics in the right way. I refer to a case f.e. that you’re able to follow and understand by meaning what a radio show tells but you aren’t able to reproduce the matter properly.
there?s a german expression for english speaking people who have a huge knowlegment of verbs and forms but also have a lack of using them properly : “r?uberenglisch” , which means to use vocabulary they got already but not got in already.
that’ s exactly what I?m struggeling with.
I’m able to follow any conversation or radio stream or audiobook or written text by meaning but I’m definately not capable of finding all those words and expressions by myself in case I need to express something particular.
many thanks in advance
naufragis
maybe that comes by times but I’m afraid of using certain expressions just because I’m not understanding what exactly that particular meaning is ment? for. by every now and then I got a complete confusion about using words I’ve learned untill now.
maybe that?s a point to create an new topic in forum
You have a very valid question which is not easy to answer
all at once, so I shall answer it bit by bit.
Are you living in Germany and speaking German?
If so, I can use some examples in the German and English.
Having a contrast language from which to give an example in
the English is easier.
Hi Naufragis,
I?m glad you like my examples.
Sometimes I write a lot (alot) and have thought
recently that it is better to write small answers more
often and long explanations or answers should be posted
as a new topic or even an article.
I?m particularly pleased that you liked my “ambiguous”
dissection. I got the impression I wrote too much for
most people there.
As far as continuing to clarify any of your questions
about ambiguous prepositions etc. … I am glad to help
anyway I can, so just shoot off with a question and the
answer I give will dictate if it is to be a new topic, an article,
a simple answer or a referral to some of Alan?s work already
published on this Website.
We are now in the Beginners English Department, so please
can you start off the next question as a New Topic for all
to see. Thanks again. Bruce.
Hello Mr, Torsten,
Thank you so much for being helpful and patient. Yes, sir, your lessons were very interesting and I was interested in them .
My practice for the 4th lesson is the following:
“I am Souad and this is my husband Moussa. Both of us are teachers. Our house is a lovely small one but its garden is big. We have two children . Their names are Fares and Fareh. Fares likes school and his bag is always with him . Fareh prefers playing and running, thats why, her attitude is different.”
Mr, Torsten, would you , please, have one minute in front of your PC to assess my work?
Thank you.
Souad.
My name is filomeno,a filipino, currently working in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia.I’m not an english teacher just an english learner.
