How to use this forum?

Hi, Torsten!
I’m Tanya, I got your lesson and the letter three days ago. Thank you, very much, I liked them greatly. I’ve already done 67 tests and I feel my English is improving. As for me I live in Moscow and work at school as a teacher of History and English. But I want to know English as better as possible, I like the language very much but it is constantly changing and sometimes there are questions. I hope I’ll be able to find the answers on forum.
Best wishes. Tanya.

Noren Lee

hi, sorry to answer to you after so many days, but I had a lot of work to do. I also did some of the exercises on the website Torsten gave to me and it seems to be ok. So, I do hope that I will reach soon to a better result than today.
Waiting for your teaching lessons,

catalin

Hello again Noran,

why did you put “international” between brackets? Is there any other English language that I know?

catalin

Hi Catalin,
Just a quick note that English language is spoken in almost all the countries. English may vary from country to country; the English of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and several other countries. People from these countries use English as a second language, or maybe third one. They have their own pronunciation, spelling, usage, style etc. That’s why I wrote “International English” so that there won’t be any communication barrier while exchanging ideas, thoughts, or doing business etc.

Hi Nick:

I total agree with you. It was happened to me before,I have poor writting skill,so I always afraid of writiting. When I want to leave message or write email to friend,I made same mistake again and again.I know knowledge of the CAPTAIL LETTER,but I always think it’s only careless mistake or its only a “habit”.

Once my friend’ company need someone to fill out the form on the website,my friend recommended me.When penlty of paper work come to me,I panic.I know its not very hard to fill out them. But I made mistake again,I confused CAPTAIL LETTER and small letter. There are so many different name form all over the world, address, nationality all the thing mix together,(The more you’re panic, The more you’re confused.)Finailly,I wasted a lot of time to struggle with that problem.

After that,I know what’s important to give up the bad “habit”.when I write something down,I try my best to correct mistake,I don’t want bad habit along with me.

I hope Nick and friends on this forum can correct me .

And Nick,is this sentence(The more you’re panic, The more you’re confused.)any wrong?

Hi Noren  :

Dear Torsten,
I am writing this message because the last 2nd and 3th lessons that you send to me.
They are grate but I have a problem with the links. They don’t work and I was unable to do any of this exercises and establish a contact with Laura from Austin, Texas in the USA also.
Is it possible to give me some advice what I have to do in order to continue with lessons.
Valyo

Hi Lin,

Your written English is not so bad. There are some mistakes in you message. I think your foundation is still pretty good. I can fully understand what you mean. Most of you mistakes are minor ones. You almost do not have any problem with the capital letters which I always consider it as a habit rather than a kind of knowledge. Another simple rule ( or good habit ) is to put a space after a comma or period (full stop) of EVERY sentence while spelling errors are quite common in your passages.

As you have said: “ I try my best to correct mistake ”. This sentence motivated me to respond your request although I don’t usually have time on this forum. How could you do that? I would recommend you to correct your mistakes and improve your writings in two phases. The first phase is to correct it by yourself. It’s very simple. When you first draft your message, do it in the Microsoft Word. It will correct all the spelling errors ( for non-existent American words only ) as well as the spacing between sentences. This is the way I am doing now. Nevertheless, bear in mind that you still need to have the proofreading for at least twice to avoid careless mistakes as the software is not able to differentiate some “misspelled words” which legally exist in American English. For example, if you misspell the word “eat” as “ate” it might not correct you since both words exist. The Microsoft Word cannot correct spellings of words in CAPITAL letters either.

The second step is to post your proofread message in this forum and hopefully someone(s) will correct it. I know many members here are enthusiastic to do so. If there are too many careless mistakes blended in your message, however, it is very unlikely to point them all out because it is very time consuming and, on the other hand, they don’t want you to be frustrated, nor discouraged. The worst scenario is that they give up responding anyway. To me, I have a third reason. Frankly speaking, I can find out tons of mistakes from other members but I don’t think that I have the ability to “correct” them. I really don’t want to use other mistakes to replace their original mistakes. I am even afraid that I will use some wrong wordings to replace their correct ones.

I am not kidding when I say that there are tons of mistakes in our forum, especially repeated ones. If anyone queries about this, please count the vast number of “i”s here in this forum. I will highly recommend Mr. Torsten to put the use of “I” in the 1st lesson so everybody knows that we need to use it in this forum as well as in the outside world.

Lin, I have copied your post to the WORD document and corrected the spacing, spelling, lower case and upper case letters and the “s” according to the hint from the WORD which you can do it yourself as well.

Lin, don’t you think that the above message is much better now? Please compare this with your original text. If you don’t mind, I would like to further “ correct ” your message but I cannot guarantee it is better nor correct since most of my English was learned in Hong Kong long time ago and not here in Canada.

Lin, your attitude is very positive and you can express your idea very clearly. I think you will improve your English very soon. “ Jiayou ”.

Hi, Mr Torsten and everybody, could you please tell me the differences between :

(1) [color=blue]“It was happened to me before” and [color=blue]“It happened to me before”
(2) [color=blue]“on this forum” and [color=blue]“in this forum”

Best regards,

Hi Gauri,

Are you ready and able to change your habits? For example, you have developed the bad habit of using words that don’t exist. We can only help you improve your English if you are willing to change your habits yourself.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Hi Lin,
How are you? I hope you are doing great. Well, here is the answers you wanted:

Endeavour = Canadian, UK spelling of Endeavor
Endeavor = US spelling

Both the words mean the same thing.
Endeavor (as a noun) is “attempt, try, job, career etc.”
Endeavor (as a verb) is "do your best, make every effort, struggle etc.

And, I will tell you about myself later, don’t mind.
