The best way to live a healthy life is to eat healthy. Healthy eating has a big impact on our life, future success and it also prevents obesity. Eating healthy is a rule everyone should live by, and it brings many benefits in our lives.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. No matter how busy you are, never skip breakfast. Breakfast is essential to getting the body ready to the long day ahead. Start your day with some simple breakfast such as, wholegrain cereal, low fat milk or yogurt and maybe some fruit or vegetables. This way, you would give your immune system a boost, strengthen your brain, hydrate your system and digestion and relief stress.

Throughout the day one should eat healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, whole grain crackers, white meat and light popcorn. These types of food are rich in nutrients and have all the vitamins we need to keep our body healthy. Nutritionists recommend that we should eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, we should avoid foods which have lots of sugars and salt. This means that we should limit the consumption of sweets, chocolates, cakes, crips etc. Additionally, we should also drink plenty of water. Water helps to keep our body hydrated. Moreover, it also helps to keep our energy levels in check and helps transport nutrients to our body.

Along with eating healthy we should also watch our portion sizes. When we prepare meals at home, we have to use smaller plates. When you use a smaller plate or bowl, it appears that you are having a larger portion of food. This tricks your brain into thinking you are eating more. Furthermore, you should always stop eating when you are full. If you didn’t manage to eat all your food, save your leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch. Eating a variety of foods provides a range of different nutrients to the body, promotes good health, and can help reduce the risk of disease – as well as keeping your diet interesting with different flavours and textures! Eating slowly is also another good practice because it helps to improve your digestion and to better absorb the nutrients.

Just like everything else in life, hygiene is very important. Washing our hands before preparing or eating our meals is a must. This will prevent food poisoning. If there are any leftovers one should always keep the food in cool dry places. One should also clean up the kitchen before and after eating.
