zero is neither singular nor plural logically but, English probably treats zero as plural since grammar gives us only two choices.
zero is not probably the word “one”
we normally say “there are no spoons on the table”, probably because zero is thought of as a number , that is not one.
Yes, zero is plural: it should be “zero degrees”. As Nerry said, there is no good reason why it is so, but grammar is not always rational.
