Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
That’s quite astonishing, isn’t? I wonder if it works for entire sentences too…

Interesting.
If only we had a sample paragraph to try it out.
I wonder if there are additional keys to our understanding. For instance the distinctive tt in mttaer and ltteer seem to need to be near the middle of the word. In mses the lack of the final double s seems a problem while the double e in rscheearch draws too much attention. The spacing of tall letters seems important.

We can try it out pertty much wtih any text. If you can read and uneadrstnd the airtcle bleow for exmpale, you are cpaable of unscarimblng wrods and snteenecs on het lyf.

I’ve seen this before. I think you can even leave out words altogether.
This probably works because a large part of vision is in the brain. The reason optical illusions work is because the brain “sees” what it expects to see.
It’s the same when you proof read your own writing. We already know what it is supposed to say, so we tend to see that instead of what is actually written.
Novels also tend to have a fair number of mistakes even though they are written by professional writers and professional copy editors. Sometimes there are even obvious blatant mistakes that make it through.

This passage, of course, is new for me.
The reason is given in the first passage (known widely): Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
