Hi everyone,
I have recently said “You look very thoughtful” to a friend of mine who seemed to be preoccupied and contemplating on something. He told me that he would not use this word in this sentence. He argued that the word thoughtful is only used for someone who shows consideration to others. Having checked dictionaries, however, I still think that it can also be used to suggest that the person is full of thoughts, or lost in thoughts. We are both non-native speakers, so I wanted to be on the safe side, and check with you guys. Can you enlighten me please?
Thank you in advance.
