Work expressions?

Dear friends, did you know that the ‘work’ is one of the most versatile words in the English language? This means you can use the ‘work’ in lots of different contexts and situations. The word ‘work’ can be a verb as well as a noun. For example, the sentence “I’m sure we can work out all our differences” means “I’m sure we can reach an agreement”. In this case ‘to work out’ is a phrasal verb. Of course the word ‘work’ is also used in many compound nouns such as ‘work permit’, ‘art work’, ‘work contract’ or ‘work placement’. And then there are also idioms with ‘work’ as in ‘She’s a real piece of work’ and I will tell you next time what it means.

In the meantime, please take this test to find out how many work expressions you know.
