Women and the English language

With all due respect to Amy and Conchita!

Hi

I would have to admit that never ever have I seen any book of English Grammar written by a woman, nor any dictionary, book of idiom or proverb for that matter.I have seen hundreds of books of grammar, but all written by men!
Why? Does it simply prove that men are far better than women at language?

Hi Tom,

One of the most famous books that’s still in print today is:

A Practical English Grammar by Thomson and Martinet (two charming old ladies who lived to a ripe old age)

Bang up to date Is

The Cambridge Guide to English Usage by Pam Peters (published 2004)

Professor Jean Aitchison who holds the chair of communications at Oxford, who apart from writing some fascinating books on English and the changes it is going through also delivered the prestigious Reith Lectures on the BBC on The language web: the power and problems of words.

Shall I go on?

Alan

.
Betty Azar also comes to mind for grammar …

I’ve met Vicki Hollett. She wrote some wildly successful course books for Business English…
.

Ahahaha great one, as i was just thinking the same but I hereby declare that, woman can speak fabulous English.
Not Joking

You’ve stumbled upon and uncovered some sort of conspiracy, a hornet’s nest if you will, that’s been kept under wraps since the dawn of time. They are after you. It’s only a matter of time before they apprehend you. Better flee the country under an assumed identity and hide out somewhere before it all dies down and it’s safe to return, if ever.
