Technology has influenced profoundly on our life. We use laptop for working, studying and relaxing. We cannot go out without cell phone or ipad. Teachers use slide projectors to take lectures, students can go online to study and housewives can buy foods even they are at home. However, this development of technology makes people depend more on it. Sadly,as people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
The deterioration of the ability of human is obliviousbecause technology makes them lazier. In the past, our parents or grandparents received very little support from technology. When they made any calculations, they had to count mentally even some sophisticated equations. Now, some of students use pocket calculators for very simple equations. Unfortunately, not only the ability of counting mentally but also the ability of thinking logically and critically decreases. When a student want to write a topic, he only type some key word on search tool in the Internet, a huge resource is available for him. He uses this material and stole other’s ideas before thinking his own opinions.
The reliance on technology also prevents people from solving problems effectively. At home, we cook rice by using a cooker. Children only know how to cook by this tool. In case the electricity is out, they do not know what have to do. People are so familiar to search information on the Internet. Somehow, the Internet connection is out and they have to go to the library. They are surprised by the huge books and so confused how to begin. Technology creates too much convenience for people, but they will be embarrassed to face troubles in life when this convenience goes.
Some might argue that technology is developed by human, and it frees people from their limits. People with the help of technology are more creative. Based on the Thomas Edison’s invention of telephone, cell phone is very popular today. The first airplane invented by Wright brothers is the first step for modern airplane nowadays. Technology creates a firm foundation for people to have a convenient and modern life. Technology is a kind of catalyst to force people think hard and work hard.
In conclusion, people have a love- hate relationship with technology. However, whether the ability of human to think for themselves depends on how we use technology. Applying technology to science and life suitably will encourage our potential abilities and bring happiness to us.
