Will a Dec 1 test date get GRE scores to schools by Jan 1?

I am sitting the GRE on November 15th.

If I do poorly, I will want to write the GRE again on Dec 1.

I am applying to 12 schools, and the school with the earliest application due date (NYU) has it marked for January 1st. If I have to sit the GRE on December 1st, will there be enough time to get the scores to NYU by December 1st?

Hi VicMackey,

How did your exam go on December 1? Any news from NYU?[YSaerTTEW443543]

Hi Torsten,

I actually managed to write the exam a little bit earlier, on November 27th.

The exam went pretty well. I scored:

Verbal: 720 (98th percentile)
Quant: 650 (59th percentile)
Writing: 6/6 (96th percentile)

All of my score reports have been ordered, and most of them (including NYU) have already reached their destinations.

So, I’m just finishing up my hard-copy application packages, and they’ll be FedEx’d off to the schools by the end of the week.

Overall, I am happy with my scores. My Verbal and Writing scores are very strong, and they will make me extremely competitive at the programs to which I am applying. My Quantitative score is lower than I would have liked (and a little bit lower than my practice test average), but it should be fine.

Because I am applying to humanities departments (Philosophy PhD), my math score should not matter too much. And, hopefully, my other two scores will give me a boost.

I’m certainly glad that I found this forum a while before I took the test. I read through the posts, and I got a lot of good tips and strategies.

Anyway, I’m glad that things worked out.

Good luck to everyone else!

Hi Vic,

Good to hear you did so well on your GRE, congratulations! Is there any university you prefer to study at? Also, what are your plans for the time after you graduate?[YSaerTTEW443543]
