Why pretend..?

Hi,
Does the phrase work for you:“I am what I am. Why pretend otherwise?”
Thank you.

I like to think of myself as a “who”, not a “what” but otherwise it sounds fine.

Thank you, Luschen.
Would you give another hint on the “sound and fury” in:“He was always straining to reach his true level […], going from sound and fury against the Platinum All Stars to a level of incompetence […] that almost beggared belief in this world-class striker.”
What I found was:’ “Sound and Fury” is an allusion referring to a great uproar and passionate exclaim that ultimately means nothing.’, which implies he worked his socks off in vain or something else?

I think the problem is that you are smarter than the sportswriter. Based on context, the writer is using “sound and fury” as a good thing, forgetting the second half of Shakespeare’s famous quotation.

Luschen,
“I am who I am. Why do I pretend otherwise?”
Is it not OK?

‘Why would I pretend otherwise?’

Hi,
Whatever remarks could follow about the one crawling out of the woodwork, I’m definitely digging my heels in as to the “what”, and I believe, for a good reason.
Namely:
1.“Be what you would seem to be”, sourced from:be what you would seem to be | Encyclopedia.com
2.“What you are not doesn’t define who you are” from:Stay Inspired
3.“Stay What You Are” from:In Music We Trust - Saves The Day: Stay What You Are
4.And finally, “Definition of HYPOCRISY 1: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not;” from:Hypocrisy Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster
Regards.
