thanks!

Rise: when someone or something moves in an upward motion
“The sun rises at 6 am.”
Arise: is used when people are made aware of something
“A problem arose at the meeting last night.”
Arise means to get up etc. but it’s only used in writing in that way.

please tell me the difference between : raise ands rise?
thanks a lot!

Hi Saneta,

In another thread, I’ve just explained the difference between ‘laying’ and ‘lying’ to you. Raise/rise works in exactly the same way.
‘Raise’ needs a direct object, like ‘lay’. ‘Rise’ doesn’t need a direct object - the person or animal performs the action on themselves.

Here’s a summary containing lay/lie and raise/rise.

For more information, search online or in a grammar book for ‘transitive and intransitive verbs’.

you can rise from your bed- why not: raise, because the direct object in this sentence is a body?
Thanks a lot Beeesneees!!!

But it is your own body.

You can rise from bed on your own.
If somelone has to help you then they raise you from your bed.
