Why brand, not make?

Dear Alan,

Why is it not possible to use a word ‘make’ when we speak about tea?

Elena

Correct entry: brand
The error was: (d) mark

You have [color=green]found the error but your entry is [color=red]incorrect.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. ‘Make’ is usually used for something that is manufactured as for example a car or a washing machine. ‘Brand’ is very often associated with food and drink.

Alan

What about “trademark”?

Not ‘trademark’-- that is just the name of the little logo on the package, not the brand of product.
