who vs. whom and lay vs. lie

Is this too easy to solve the who/whom or Lie /Lay questions as somebody say ? If so, pls. you show me the easiest tricks as still I differ -

like Mr. Tomsmith says
Humbly say it is not easy that you say about the problem solving who and whom !
Preliminary types of questions , you can solve this way but , like 'He has finally found a teacher who/whom he believes can handle his naughty child ‘Fin’ .

please. tell your answer how could I handle this situation ? This is only a normal situation , more complex I have.

Mr Norman Lewis book’s name ‘Better English’ where he claimed among the most sagacious persons in English grammar have frequent mistaken in Who/whom or Lie/Lay
as because the solving is not too easy as like you say . please. teach me if you have other clue/s to solve or certainly other grammarian may mentor me ;of course , if you have positive attitude only.

The explanations are simple if followed carefully:

I. Who and Whom

‘Who’ is a subject pronoun. – Who is coming tonight?
‘Whom’ is an object pronoun. – Whom are you inviting tonight?

He has finally found a teacher who [he believes] can handle his naughty child. – ‘He believes’ is a comment clause; ‘who’ is the subject of ‘can handle’.

The pronoun’s function in the dependent clause takes precedence over its function in the main clause:

I want you to invite whomever you like.-- ‘Whomever’ is the object of ‘like’.
I want you to invite whoever wants to come.– ‘Whoever’ is the subject of ‘wants’.

II. Lie and Lay

Lie (lie-lay-lain) is an intransitive verb; it takes no object:

I lie on my bed every night.
I lay on my bed last night.

Lay (lay-laid-laid) is a transitive verb; it takes an object:

I lay my pillow on my bed every night.
I laid my pillow on my bed last night
.

Another example: Who should I send this information to?

Hi Mr. Micwaber !

Nice your answer but still partial !

I am waiting who would be answered more elaborately very soon . Grammar is analysis , diagnosis and finally fun.

You asked for a simple explanation “the easiest tricks”. Mister Micawber provided one.
By the way,
‘nice your answer but still partial’ should be ‘Your answer is nice, but still partial.’
‘I am waiting who would be answered more elaborately very soon’ should be ‘I am awaiting someone who will elaborate on the answer very soon.’

Why not you just assume -nice answer but still partial- is a heading only which does not follow any rule but whole unit is a noun only !

Last line ,as you are native naturally you possessed some advantages like you are always heard English language expression again and again which foreigners must translate by their own language and that sounds some time artificial. Your writing is more indigenous . Thanks.

I assume it is not a title because:
it is not placed where a title would be placed;
the context does not indicate that it should be a title;
it is not formatted in the way a title would be.

‘Why not you just assume…’ should be ‘Why do you not just assume…’

Of course I have an advantage as a native speaker. So does Mister Micawber, who also has the advantage of being an excellent grammarian… but nevertheless you did not accept his answer.
What you don’t seem to appreciate is that to learn to speak a language so that it sounds natural, you need to do more than read grammar books.
A good knowledge of grammar is important for a learner, but it’s not enough. You need to read and listen to other materials too.

It is the taste of individuality as how they have educated .Reflection must come out as how they are , their background , guilty mind etc.

Being a lawyer also (total education (including business subject) 20 years), I have been observing ;a candid one always acts as like what he is ;reverse is also true .Even though who have no courage to show their faces instead of effigy ,is this not the really simple to comment such — instead of learning !

Sorry , I am not observing major drawback in my grammar and if exist I am eager to rectify ;that is why I am here .In this forum I have been watching grammatical mistakes even from the teacher/s , because to err is human being but the question is to what extend ? -in this context it is quite ok.

Who vs.Whom has 5 rules where I got only 2 from here , I am doubted whether anybody can help me in these ways ;as I have been seeing to make understand other it is the most difficult tasks in the world .Fortunately , my students whom I taught they are all first boy/girl in their classes as well as in the life . Though I am not a good student (obtained only general scholarships all the time) but can understand the students need .

Why nations go to war -is this correct ? or
It is me .

After ‘war’ there is no 'interrogative sign 'or no using ‘do’ before nations , but it is correct in standard writing .

It is correct in colloquial style -It is me -but not correct in standard English . It should be It is I ,as needed nominative form.

He is intelligent than me/ I -which one correct ? Than is here preposition or conjunction then which would correct answer ? Is this correct -go slow ?

Who vs. whom has 5 rules.

If you know only subject of the verb and object of the verb -who and whom ,you can not solve the problems in the real examination. If anybody would like to know this details I am ready to explain it elaborately.

Yes, we are awaiting your comprehensive explanation.

Well come teacher !
I would like to explain very soon ; but when you say -‘we’ instead of ‘I’ ;is this not looking you are my opponent with ‘handsome’ group ?

Peace , you are certainly a good teacher but not aware the students need ;I just wanted to say this ,nothing else but my delivery may seem sometimes slightly ‘flamboyant only’ sorry , if it happened .

One of the causes ,Forums moderators have the responsibility to hold the ‘uncouth manners’ which happened here under the ‘veil of famous people’ it is shame for me and us. Well ,from now on I would try to more careful as this is not the 'argument place ’ nor the place of ‘journalism column’ ,only sheer learning ;I am related all, of the said affairs and you will be surprised that this 'man’s articles published at some 'world renowned ’ daily news papers as well ,for ‘better argument’ only

We would like to look at one of your published articles, too. Could you post one here, or a link to one?

But I feel a little bit of suffocation ; who feel better to show his humiliation position from one 'hum drum ’ forum like we about to create here ?

Ok, you will see me if you search I would show you the link, as sometimes we believe - ‘Diplomacy is a word saying in the nicest way’

I am a naive one not cunning ----not dark diplomat but effective one-lol ! Never mind, it is not imply to anybody here but over all the context only.

Oh, please do.
This was all I could find by searching
superdonate.org/team/info/53
forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.asp … y&tid=8644

and that forum message cannot be the ‘published article’ which you promise.

Now you are bugging on as an intruder ? Oh ! I am happy to see how Interest about me !

I was ready to send some links but now I have no taste of talking with any effigy .

If englishtest.net authority has that authoritarian demand I might , I feel --shame as well ,how callous it is !

I particularly liked the response on About.com.

Thank you Mr. Micwaber .

My first published article ( The first flyer over Atlantic: Charles Lindbergh) was in 'Bangla language ’ when I was a 11 level student that was 28 years ago , now I am 46.

First English language published article was in 'The daily Financial Express ’ in 1995 -on the topics , ‘How to find buyers in the USA market’ etc.

As internet just debut here (BD)few years , I was more comfort to use library( research index) like -usis (United states information services, now name changed) in the student life and participated an essay competition in 1991 'on disarming nuclear —‘like that organized by ‘ECAR’’ 15 novel laureates , unfortunately relating books were not available in Dhaka USIS but could be possible at 'library of congress ’

Your countries diplomat refused me giving visa (causes I would not come back !) though I felt that prize could be mine ! It was 25,000 US dollar !

Too bad! That’s a lot of money to lose.

Hi Minhajquazi,

I have been reading your comments on this forum and I have to tell you I really don’t know what you are on about. Do you have a particular point to make? If you do, please tell me.
