Who says correctly?

Hi! I am sorry. I don’t know a very simple thing.
I always say: “I end my work”
My friend always says: “I finish my work?”
Who says correctly?
Ariadna.

Hi Ariadna,

Thanks for your question. The two verbs mean the same basically but are used in different ways. You would say: ‘I have finished my work’ - which means you have completed it. ‘End’ is very often used when something stops and you do not control it as in: ‘The lesson ends at 8 pm.’ To compare the two ideas, you could use both verbs together in a sentence like this: ‘The pianist finished the concerto and the concert ended with a Beethoven symphony.’

Hope this helps

Alan

Hi, Alan. Thank you.
