Capitalize “I.” It’s fine.

‘Whilst I trust him…’ would be a more formal text.

Bees, “whilst” is my “gotten.” I HATE it. And I can’t even think straight when an American uses it. I will not comprehend anything in the sentence that follows it.

‘Whilst’ to me has the air of the pedant about it and puts me off, too. It has the same flavour as amid(st) and among(st) and for some of us makes it difficult to digest.
