Hi all, I have a question and want a help from you . When I search oxford with " stay" word , the result showed that it is INTRANSITIVE VERB ( similar to REMAIN). Nevertheless, STAY also come together Noun as image below . I can’t understand why . Please help me !
The reason I show this question is that I want to know whether my 2 sentence below true or false ?
1, RAISING SALARY WILL ATTRACT AND STAY/REMAIN EMPLOYEES
2, RAISING SALARY WILL ATTRACT AND RETAIN/MAINTAIN EMPLOYEES
The verb “to stay” can be both transitive and intransitive, depending on how it is used and in what combination. Why are you asking? I mean, are you trying to study theoretical linguistics or do you want to improve your English?
Thank teacher . I have edited my question clearly

PLEASE DON’T SHOUT!
A pay raise will attract and retain employees.
@Torsten, did the poster understand what you meant by SHOUT? I suspect.
@manhbeo37, it is because of the FULLY CAPITALIZED sentence.
As Torsten said, ‘stay’ can be used as either intransitively or transitively as exemplified below:
- Joan stayed at this hotel for three days. (Intransitive)
- The court stayed all further proceedings. (Transitive)
