Where/Which

I went to Thanh Ba post office yesterday, … I haven’t been to before?
A. Which
B. Where
C. Both are correct.
Please help me with this sentence. I think “where I haven’t been to” is OK too, isn’t it? Thank you

No, ‘where’ does not work with ‘been to’.
To use ‘where’ you would have to omit the ‘to’.

Hi Bev,

BTW, aren’t the tenses mismatched in the sentence?
I mean the main clause appears to be in the past, and the subordinate clause is in the present (perfect). If he went there yesterday, then he can’t claim that he hasn’t been there before.

Well spotted, Tort!

It should be “I went to Thanh Ba post office yesterday, which I hadn’t been to before.”, shouldn’t it? Probably just a typo.

I don’t see the problem with the present perfect in that sentence. The problem is more with ‘to which …’ as that sounds a bit cockeyed to me but given the choices, there isn’t another possibility.

It is acceptable to say: I visited the Tower of London last week where I haven’t been before.

Thank you Alan,

So once again the past perfect is not really needed…
