Hi Infin1ty,

An interesting expression! I am very much unsure but I would just wonder if “Pop goes the ego” >> “the ego goes pop” >> the ego explodes. (??) Don’t laugh at it if I am in the wrong.

The ego is shattered

Thanks a lot, Haihao and Mister Micawber.

This is a creative, very comical expression, because there is an old, traditional song for children called “Pop goes the weasel”. It is the song that the old toy called a jack-in-the-box plays. So when the person wrote “pop goes the ego”, it makes it sound like the person’s ego was shattered at a predictable moment and in a funny way.
