I think it’s like climbing a mountain, you reach the top and on the other side you walk down. And when you are at the stage of walking down you have passed the peak.

Hi, it usually is expressed as " Past his / her peak.", meaning he / she isn’t the athlete he/she was.

Can also refer to a horse / dog or talented person who is no longer as good as they were.

Or even, the Stock Market whose peak has been reached and now is beginning to descend.

Note the difference:

It has passed its peak and it is past its peak.
