What's the difference between hire, rent, lease, and charter?

Somebody please explain the differences between “hire”, “rent”, “lease”, and “charter”.

Dear S,
1. Hire
verb : pay someone in order to make them work for you
Mr.A has a restaurant. You work there as a chef, that means he hires you. You are hired .If you don’t want to work there anymore, he has to hire someone else.
hire>< fire. A girl is the waitress in Mr.A’s restaurant. If she works badly, he will fire her.

2. Rent
verb : pay money to use things which belong to other people in a short time period. ( house, traffic means…)
noun : the amount of money you pay to use someone’s land or house
You have a house with 2 rooms. You just need one room. Some one pay you money to live in the other room. He is renting the room. The money he pays you is the rent.

3. Lease
verb : let someone use your things and receive money from them
noun : the contract you make with the one who rents your things
You have a house with 2 rooms. You just need one room. Some one pay you money to live in the other room. He is renting the room. You are leasing the room.

4. Charter
verb

  1. hold under a lease or rental agreement; of goods and services ,syn: rent
  2. engage for service under a term of contract, syn: lease
    in short : to lease or hire for usually exclusive and temporary use
    noun
    1.a contract to hire or lease transportation
  3. written statement giving certain rights.

In my opinion, ‘hire’ is usually related to job, work, when talking about exchanging money for labor ; ‘rent’ is likely borrow smth within paying money according to how long you use it ; ‘rent’ and ‘lease’ are related to accommodation , while the one who rents has-money-need-house and the one who leases has-house-take-money; ‘charter’ is likely used in more formal situation for ‘rent’ and lease, usually related to renting ship or aircraft, or in the situation where people exchange money for rights to use exclusively and temporarily.
