Good afternoon,
I have a problem with one sentence.
Winter holidays IS /ARE going to be in the first week of February.` I have found out in a dictionary that the word `holiday` has 2 meanings. The 1-st one ( in singular form `holiday`) is `day of break, from one`s work/festival` The second one , but in plural form (holidayS) - means` vacation, period of recreation away from home. So how I can understand in which meaning the word `holiday` is used - the 1-st or the second? And.... What verb is needed here : IS or ARE:
Winter holidays IS /ARE going to be inthe first week of February.`
Hi,
‘Holidays’ can of course mean ‘vacation’ ‘break’ ‘leave’ and so on but it is a plural noun and it must be ‘holidays are’.

Thanks a lot, Alan.
