What is the opposite of the phrase “foreign workers”? Domestic workers?
Yes, domestic workers who are nationals of the country they work in. If the workers live within the proximity of their workplace you can also call them ‘local workers’.
It is tricky though, because “domestic workers” usually refers to employees who work in other people’s homes, as maids, nannies, and caregivers. Sometimes your meaning would be clear, but I could see many scenarios that could cause confusion. For instance, you can have “migrant domestic workers” or “foreign domestic workers”.
