what is the difference between scant and scanty? thanks!
They both refer to smallness. ‘Scant’ suggests deficient in the sense of failing to show fullness often of knowledge as in: He has scant knowledge of English grammar - this means that there are gaps in his knowledge.
‘Scanty’ suggests insufficient in quantity or amount often referring to clothes that do not cover the body sufficiently as in: During the hot weather people often wear scanty clothing and thus expose a lot of their body to the sun.
