What does responsible stewardship mean??

Hi, I met the phrase “responsible stewardship” when I was browsing university websites, and I am having trouble understanding it.

“… promotes responsible stewardship of our natural resources…”
“…a commitment to responsible stewardship of the wider world…”

What does these two “responsible stewardship” mean separately in the sentences? (I am assuming that they have different meanings.)

Thanks a lot. Have a good day!

I wouldn’t say those two examples of ‘stewardship’ are quite different. Both relate to your dealing with\handling something responsibly. ‘Wider world’ seems just to be bigger than natural resourses alone–including the flora, fauna, things produced by the humankind…

Hi, thank for for your reply. Can “a commitment to responsible stewardship of the wider world” mean “making contributions to society” or something like that?

Happy holidays!

–I’d say, if it fits the context, then yes, being responsible to the wider world (creative rather than destructive), you could well make contributions to society.

Happy holidays to you.
