"What do you like?" means "personality" or "taste"?

I confused with two question as belows:

  1. What is our new manager like?
  • He likes football — I choose
  • He is very strict — Correct answer
  • She enjoys opera
  1. What does Mrs.McDonnel like?
  • She’s tall and rather slender
  • Oh, she loves to sing karaoke — Correct answer
  • She’s hard working and honest — I choose

“What do you like?” means “personality” or “taste”?
Please help me to explain those. Thanks

You have the wrong idea.

  1. What does our new manager like? is asking about his taste in things, hobbies, etc. - He likes football
    but
What is our new manager like? is asking about his personality, appearance, attitude, etc, - He is very strict.

  2. What does Mrs McDonnel like? (her taste in things, hobbies, etc) - she likes karaoke.
    but
What is Mrs McDonnel like? (personality, appearance, etc.) - she is hardworking / she is tall.

“What do you like” implies the “taste” or “favorite thing”. It does not implies personality.
