Up until I read this headline I used to think that a headset is just a set of headphones. Now I have learned that it can also refer to the bearing assembly which links the front fork of a bicycle to its frame. Well, You never stop learning, I guess…
I’m glad there is another meaning for headset. The headline sounds most uncomfortable.
I used to really be into cycling, so I know what a headset is. When I was in my teens I placed some local ads advertising bicycle maintenance and repairs. I got very few customers. It was just enough to pay for some specialized tools. I got some tools out of it to work on my own bikes, which was good enough pay for a 15-16 year old with little money.
Many years later I was half owner of a bicycle store for a short while. It was a junk store. We literally got junk bikes from the scrapyard. We had a few hundred of them. We mixed and matched parts to make whole bikes, then sold them.
Anyway, I don’t see any good reason for anyone except the top tier competitive riders to need internal cable routing. It might help the aerodynamics very slightly - so slight that it won’t matter except in very top end cycling. For everyone else it’s just vanity.
