What are you listening to?

I’m from a small town near the Czech border. A couple of years ago we even got our own checkpoint so whenever I visit my parents I just zoom over to market place on the Czech side of the border. There you can buy almost anything from a number of creative Vietnamese retailers.

Unlike the Germans they work 7 days a week and yesterday I bought a couple of music CD’s at a fraction of the German market price. Sony Music might not be too happy about the fact that their CD’s are copied and sold publicly but here I am – listening to Bon Jovi’s latest album Have a Nice Day.

In addition I bought the two lastest albums by Nelly Furtado and I listen to them while I’m posting messages on the forum.

What about you? Is there anything you are listening to right now?[YSaerTTEW443543]

My cravings for music vary according to mood, weather, landscape, what I’m doing, what I’m thinking/dreaming of, whether it’s danceable, belly-danceable, etc. These days, I seem to go for a particular, soulful kind of voice, like those of Eva Cassidy (such beautiful songs, too), Michael Bolton, Patrick Bruel, Norah Jones or Dulce Pontes, among others.

Hi Conchita,

Listening to that Nelly Furtado album again it occurred to me that there is one song in Portoguese called No Hay Igual (ha, I hope it is Portoguese and not Spanish ;-)). Anyway, do you understand the lyrics of that song? Please take a look here:

[i]Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas,
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

(What it is?)
Ven y mira lo!
Venga y acaba con mi dolor
Loco para ti por favor, y ya conozco tu olor

(What it is?)
Mucho gusto se?or
Cuando estoy contigo siento tanto calor.
Me pongo loco con tu amor
Y ya entiendo tu valor

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas,
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

el hambre que tengo tienes que matar
mi copa otro d?a tienes que llenar
Dime que nunca me vas dejar
(What it is?)
Pero no demoras. Cada d?a mi cuerpo llora
cuantas cosas quiero, a ese se?or
quiero que yo quiero, yo lo quiero ahora

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas,
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No hay igual (Que hacemos?)
No-No-No-No No hay igual

Me levantas cuando cantas a mi nombre (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Me levantas cuando cantas a mi nombre (oh-oh-ohhhh)
Ay que lindo, es mi chico, tengo listo (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Ay que ni?o, necesito, tu sonido (ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhh)

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas
el tiempo pasa
no quiero otro
no hay igual

Quiero tu solo
no es lo mismo
por eso espero
huele mi cuerpo
t? me encantas,

Sorry, Torsten, wrong guess! Those lyrics are in Spanish, though not the best one, be it said in passing.

Hi Conchita, that’s kind of interesting since Nelly Furtado has a Portugese background rather than a Spanish one…[YSaerTTEW443543]

I brought over 200 cd’s with me to China in fact I always travel with my music. Since Portuguese was brought up I will put in my two cents. There is no finer female vocalist than Alcione. An incredible range, a voice that is filled with saldage, hope I spelled that right.

I agree, that the mood influences the choice. It might be Nick Lowe, Squeeze, Jethro Tull, James Brown, Garbage, Mozart. Oh, it’s just so hard to have a favorite.

The last few cd’s? Collective Soul, Ace of Base, Forro: Music for Maids and taxi drivers, Gail Costas: My name is Gal, Bowie, Costello, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently bought the current Red Hot Chili Peppers album “Stadium Arcadium” – these guys are obviously very productive as Stadium Arcadium doesn’t consist of just one CD but two each containing 14 songs! I must admit I don’t like all of them but there are some that are absolutely terrific such as “Especially In Michigan”. Anyone every heard that song? Here is a bit of background on it:

Am just listening to ‘Say it again’ by Natasha Bedingfield. Pretty good song, isn’t it? By the way, although we have discussed this question several times before and especially Jamie provided a lot of useful information I’m still amazed at the fact that the UK remains the nation number one when it comes to producing pop music. Seems like there is a little of a pop star in every British person ;-).[YSaerTTEW443543]

Torsten, some of those CDs are pirated, but some of them are so cheap because they are legitimately licensed to local companies so that they can be produced at a lower price that is appropriate to the local economy. Anyway, if you bought the pirated ones, you’re not only cheating the Sony Music, but you’re also cheating the artist out of his or her royalties. John Bongiovi may not miss the money, but some newer artists don’t make as much money as “stars” used to because of the types of contracts the record companies give them.

Anyway, those Vietnamese used to be the only people in that country who provided what Westerners would actually call customer service. If ordinary Czech retailers didn’t have what you needed, they would just say, “We don’t have it. Come back on Monday and see if it comes in.” There was no attempt to order it. The Vietnamese would say, “What size do you need? I’ll have it for you tomorrow.” Just like Americans.

I’m listening to the Three Tenors sing Nessun Dorma by Puccini. This is a nice tune.

It’s the song played toward the end of the film “The Sum Of All Fears”… when the bad guys are shown being killed.

Hi everyone,

It just occurred to me that in addition to listening to music we now can also listen to our own voices. All you need to do is read How to record voice messages on the forum?

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Torsten[YSaerTTEW443543]

Loved the skeletons. I don’t think the lyrics matters to me because I also don’t get them when I’m listening to this type of song in my mother tongue.

At the moment here’s what I’m listening to:

Hi! My name is Irina. I’m from Russia. I like jazz, blues, classics, ambient. In summer I bought a CD of very talented young pianist Eldar. His music is wonderful. Has anybody listened to him?

Because it is that time of the year, I am listening to Handel’s Messiah. I simply love it!!

Happy Holidays to All!

On this Christmas day, I am into this:

jp.youtube.com/watch?v=Egqnip2dhsU

It’s a Japanese version of Last Christmas by Exile (originally from George Michael).

I’ve always loved the English version but now I love both versions!

Enjoy! And Merry Christmas too!

Man! Today is so boring. It’s cold outside here.
And this is what i’m listening…

Honestly what will become of me
don’t like reality
It’s way too clear to me
But really life is dandy
We are what we don’t see
Missed everything daydreaming…
—> A song by Nelly Furtado! Do ya realize what it is Torsen???

My favorite music is jazz, blues and classic. There are so many wonderful musicians in these genres. Right now I am listening Dizzy Gillespie’s album “Con Alma”. It is a real classic of jazz!
