Hello Pdarlyn1,

A weather forecast is a prediction of what the weather is going to be like later while a weather report is an explanation of what the weather is like now. A weather forecast is part of a weather report.

what is difference between weather report and weather forecast?

Hello Liu,

A weather forecast a prediction of what the weather will be like later. A weather report is an explanation of what the weather is like now, and it also includes the forecast. Hope this helps.

A forecast always predicts (future) weather – what the weather will be an hour from now, tomorrow, two days from now, etc.

A weather report may include a forecast (future) but it also tells us about today’s weather, weather we’ve already witnessed.

So here’s a weather reporter doing a forecast at 6pm:

“It’s going to be cold tonight with lows in the 20s. Tomorrow the high will be 50 with a low of 35. Wednesday the high should reach 85, but we’ll probably see some rain in parts of the viewing area.”

And here’s a weather report:

“The high today was 45. The low was 13. Tomorrow’s weather should be warmer…”

The forecast only predicts future weather. The report will give observed high and low temps of today… and may also include a forecast.

Thanks a lot, Infin1ty and Prezbucky! I can tell the difference now.

Hello Mr. Torsten,
You asked me whether I know the difference between weather forecast and weather report. I think that the former depends on prediction of weather while the latter depends on what has happened. Future tense is used in weather forecast yet the past tense or the present perfect is used in the weather report.

Best Regards,
Manal

Dear Torsten,
Weather forecast is a description of what the weather will probably be like in the near future, for example on the radio,TV,or in newspapers:
Weather forecast predicted a heavy snow for Moscow.
Weather report is a description of the weather conditions now and in the near future, especially one on the radio or TV:
There are weather reports every hour to keep you up to date with driving conditions.
I hope it will be correct.
Best regards,
Morteza

Hi Torsten…

As I happened to read the above question, I would like you to know what I know about these two terms…

A whether forecast means anticipation of whether before the actual time for what the whether is being forcasted… It includes the scientific efforts…

And when we hear or read the information of whether for the day in the news or newspapers respectively, it is called whether report…

I am eagerly waiting for your kind reply, as it makes me feel like having a brilliant English tutor like you…

I am sorry for my bad English… :frowning:

You might want to look up the difference between weather and whether in your dictionary first.

Hi Shyone,

I am sorry for continuously using the wrong word… I kept writing it whether instead of weather… as I told you that I hardly get time to write something so I wrote it in hurry but I am really thankful to you for letting me know my mistake…

And I have already apologised for my English… and that’s what I’m here for…

Thanks a tonne…

Dear Mr Torsten,

As far as I know, weather forecast is the prediction of what the weather will be. It has not happened yet. Meanwhile, for weather report, it is the report of what the weather is. In tenses, future tense is used in forecasting weather, while past tense (or maybe present if it is still the same day) is used in reporting weather.

Please correct me if I have made mistakes.

Thank you.

Hello Dear Eirene,

according to me you have written a very good and easy to understand definition of weather forecast and weather report…

actually, I knew the basic difference between these two terms but I couldn’t write it down in easy words as you did my friend…

weather report vs weather forecast

Hello,

What is the exact difference between “weather forecast” and weather report”, please?

Not long ago, I received my English lesson from Mr. Torsten Daerr, and he instructed me to post my question in this forum. Therefore, I would like know the exact answer to the question because I am uncertain about the answer even though I have looked the two terms up in English.best I treated the two words, forecast and report, as nouns, so I presume the following are correct:

  1. n. forecast-prediction of a future event or condition (i.e. development of the economy)

  2. Definition of report (noun) -detailed account of an occurrence or situation

Thank you.

Best wishes,
Bhikkhu1991a.

Dear Torsten,

You asked me if I know the difference between the weather forecast and weather report, well I think that weather forecast means, how the weather is going to be tomorrow and next week, and weather report is what is happening in the present.
thanks.

Licha.

HI, THERE
Weather forecast is an eventual change of the weather. Wheather report, make public, through its several shapes, what the weather forecast, foresaw.
Best regards.

The weather report is for the last week and the last 2 days but the weather forecast is for the next 2 days for the future, no?
