Wearing a school uniform should be mandatory or optional for students?

Topic: Wearing a school uniform should be mandatory or optional for students?

Schools are the sacred temples which play critical role in building a better society. Students of today will be the youth of tomorrow. Their behavior, attitude and technical knowledge are the key factors which drive them in the right direction to build a better society, to live in harmony with fellow citizens and to respect other’s customs and values. Consequently people who possess these virtues make this world a better place to live. Schools are the best places to instill these characters in children and to make them better individuals of tomorrow. A school’s responsibility lies not only in imparting knowledge to the students but also in inculcating the essence of ‘unity’ and discipline in their immature and nascent minds. By mandating all the students to wear a uniform, schools can not only illustrate the sense of unity and equality to them but also bring discipline in their lives.

At a time when the whole world is divided on the lines of religion, region and ethnicities, understanding the essence of ‘unity’ is more important now than never before. Generally, students from different religions and ethnicities join a school. There may be economic disparities among the families of students. By making a uniform mandatory, schools convey a message to all their students that: irrespective of their color, creed, religion and ethnicity, all students are treated equally and given same importance. By doing so, schools can let their students focus on their studies rather than on social divisions.

Unity in a team makes it more strong and potent. By wearing similar clothes, members of a team can not only identify their teammates but also they can help each other to progress further. This is why every team participating in a game or sport has a common uniform. Similarly, uniform brings unity among students. They feel that their goal is common: acquiring knowledge by helping each other.

Through a mandatory uniform, schools can make their students to be more disciplined and ordered rather than wayward and arrogant. Irrespective of their personal preferences, students have to stick to the rules and regulations of their school. It clearly signifies and underscores a fact that although freedom is good in many ways, abiding to certain laws of the society is paramount.

Some of us may argue that by making it mandatory for all students to wear a uniform, we are depriving their basic constitutional right of freedom. However, with their juvenile thinking and immature minds, students need guidance and help of their schools. At such an early age, students may not be able to understand the true essence of freedom. So rather than giving too much freedom, students should be educated on the importance of all the above discussed virtues. Mandating a uniform in school is one of the best and most realistic approaches to do so.

Gyna_q,

Thanks for your suggestions and corrections.

I found one more mistake in my own essay.

Consequently people who possess these virtues make this world a better place to live. Schools are the best places to instill these (characteristics) in children and to make them better individuals of tomorrow

Coming to the structure of " not only but also " is it always necessary that they should be seperated by a comma? Can you please clarify

AS far as havae learned, It is necessary to put coma before BUT ALSO when the whole sentence is composed of two independent clauses ( that is each one has a subject)
Not only is she interested in painting, But also I encourage her
Not only going to classes but also studying is needed ( no comma)

Please inform me if i am wrong

according to what mentioned, may be you should not put a comma in this sentence ( I have made a mistake!)
school’s responsibility lies not only in imparting knowledge to the students (,)but also in inculcating the essence of ‘unity’ and discipline in their immature and nascent minds.

Schools are the sacred temples that play a crucial role in building a better society. The students of today will be the youth of tomorrow. Their behavior, attitude, and technical knowledge are the key factors that drive them in the right direction to build a better society, live in harmony with their fellow citizens, and respect the customs and values of others. People who possess these virtues make this world a better place to live. School is the best place to teach children these qualities and make them better people of tomorrow. The school’s responsibility is not only to impart knowledge to the students, but also to inculcate the essence of “unity” and discipline in their immature and budding minds. By requiring all students to wear a uniform, schools can not only instill in them a sense of unity and equality, but also provide discipline in their lives.

At a time when the whole world is divided by religion, region and ethnicity, it is more important than ever to understand the essence of “unity.” As a rule, students of different religions and ethnicities attend one school. There may be economic differences in students’ families. By implementing a mandatory school uniform, schools are sending a message to all of their students that all students, regardless of color, creed, religion, or ethnicity, are treated equally and given equal importance. In this way, schools can focus on getting students to focus on their learning, not on social differences.

Unity in a team makes it stronger and more powerful. By wearing similar clothing, members of a team can not only recognize their teammates, but also help each other get ahead. For this reason, every team that participates in a game or sport has a common uniform. Similarly, the uniform creates unity among students. They feel that they have a common goal: to acquire knowledge by helping each other.

By making uniforms compulsory, schools can encourage their students to be more disciplined and orderly, rather than headstrong and arrogant. Regardless of their personal preferences, students must abide by their school’s rules and regulations. This sends a clear message and underscores the fact that while freedom is good in many ways, adherence to certain laws of society is paramount.

Some of us may argue that we are depriving students of their fundamental constitutional right to freedom by making the wearing of a uniform mandatory for all students. However, with their youthful thinking and immature minds, students need the guidance and help of their schools. At such an early age, students may not yet be able to understand the true nature of freedom. So instead of allowing too much freedom, students should be educated about the importance of all the above virtues. Mandating a school uniform is one of the best and most realistic approaches to doing this.
