way out in the suburbs east of Tokyo

HI,

I have a question on the bold part below:

Jun lived in Funabashi, way out in the suburbs east of Tokyo.

What does it mean? So, where Jun lived is far from east of Tokyo or is east of Tokyo?
Is it like “way out in the suburbs which is east of Tokyo”? I’m curious.

Thanks in advance,
sweetpumpkin

Hi Sweetpumpkin,

We haven’t spoken for a long time, good to hear from you. This description ‘way out in the suburbs east of Tokyo’ simply means that Jun lived in the suburbs that are to the east of Tokyo and these suburbs are ‘way out’ or a very long way away from Tokyo.

Hope that clarifies a bit.

Alan
