wax and wane

“The moon waxes to its full size and then wanes to the new crescent size.”
Is this sentence right? If not, please correct it.

“wanes to a crescent” seems easier and better. You don’t need “new” and “size”.

Dozy,
“The moon waxes to its full and then wanes to the crescent.”
Is this OK?

No. “to its full” is not right, and the natural article to go with “crescent” is “a”.

“The moon waxes maximum and then wanes to a crescent.”
Is it not OK?

Not really; “waxes maximum” does not sound right.

Dozy,
Please write to me the right sentence in your own British way.

Per my first reply, “The moon waxes to its full size and then wanes to a crescent.”
