I’ve received a promotional email from a US based company in which they are offering me something for “Valentine Day”. I always thought the holiday is called “Valentine’s Day” with a possessive apostrophe?

Yes, “Valentine Day” sounds pretty odd. The company is headquartered in France and first launched its software in French - maybe that is an explanation.

The interesting thing is that further down in their email they use the correct spelling - Valentine’s Day. By the way, you you are right, Sendinblue was indeed founded in France and later moved their headquarters to the US. It’s a rare case that a European company achieves the level of success Sendinblue has.

But there is a strong-growing tendency to drop the apostrophes (specially when the focusing word is plural) and hyphens, these days, as in All Souls Day, Doctors Day, April Fools Day etc and in five year old child, officer in charge, mother in law etc.
