I am working as a Software Engineer. I needed some help from another Engineer - John, and I asked 2-3 times (multiple times) and got the work done.
Based on the context, is it correct to say:
I poked John to upload the file, thanks John for the help!
Thanks!

I wouldn’t use ‘poked’ since it is way too ambiguous and could mean that you had sexual intercourse with him.

Thanks Torsten for the help!
However, what I mean is, John starts work at 11 am. But I start work at 7 am. So I (kind of go after him) made him to work at 7 and made him to finish my required work. Kind of - I go after him - to got it done.

So, you started the project and then asked John to finish it?

Yes, that is true Torsten!
What I meant to say is, by putting some kind of pressure on him (or some kind of obligation), I was able to get it done.
Thanks!

I think you could also say: I had to keep reminding/pestering/pursuing (to be after) him until he uploaded the file.
