Usage of 'forgive'

  1. Please forgive him all his sins.

  2. Please forgive him for all his sins.

Can someone please tell me which of the above two sentences is correct?

Hi,

I prefer (1) with two objects. ‘Forgive for’ is usually followed by a sentence dependent on ‘for’ as in: he forgave them for what they had done.
