Usage of "as such"

Are these sentences correct:

[color=red]1-They didn’t have invitations and as such were not allowed in.
[color=indigo]2-They hadn’t been invited and as such were not allowed in.
[color=blue]3-They were not invitees and as such were not allowed in.

I think I heard something like these sentences, but I thought ‘as such’ normally refered to a noun preceding it (‘He was the leader and as such was required to make a decision’) and not to a sentence or a phrase.

I wondered if 1, 2 and 3 were correct.

I agree with your guideline. Both 1 and 2 sound odd to me and should be avoided in careful writing.

However, once again I must add that it may not be the referent but the overall structure that makes them awkward. I would expect:

1-They didn’t have invitations and were not allowed in.
2-They hadn’t been invited and were not allowed in.
3-They were not invitees and were not allowed in.
