unfortunate vs misfortunate

Have you ever heard/used the word ‘misfortunate’?

The word is only recorded by some dictionaries and even all the spellcheckers I came across don’t recognize it.

There are A FEW ENTRIES in the on-line dictionaries, but it is not a word that I was familiar with.

This is my first encounter with this word, too. I don’t have much of a use for it, so I may forget it exists.
