I don’t think it has any meaning beyond the literal one.
I suspect this is from one of Beatrix Potter’s ‘Peter Rabbit’ stories, therefore the speaker is a rabbit and is talking to another rabbit.
The listening rabbit’s father went to the McGregor’s farm where he was caught by the farmer. The farmer’s wife made rabbit pie out of him. The speaking rabbit describing it as an ‘accident’ is simply a way of explaining it to the young rabbit without causing undue upset.
