Train pulls into the station/platform?

Please help me to choose the correct word to fill in each blank

  1. As the train pulled into the ____, the passengers got ready to board it
    A. station B. platform C. dock D. port
  2. Swallows can not take off from the ground and like most birds, they use wind currents to ___ through the air.
    A. glide B. flap C. beat D. skid
    As for sentence 1, I’d choose A.station but my teacher says the answer is B.platform
    As for sentence 2, I’d choose A.glide but my teacher says the answer is B.flap

I agree with both of your choices.

With the word “platform”, I’d prefer this:

  • as the train pulled up to the platform

In sentence 2, it makes no sense to say that birds use wind currents in order to flap (their wings) through the air. However, it makes perfect sense to say that birds use wind currents in order to glide through the air.

Your teacher is wrong, you would not pull into the platform, you would pull up to the platform, you would pull into the station. Glide is the correct answer for the second question. Who is your teacher, because I have only a high school education and English is my first language and the answers to both questions are obvious to me.
