Topic176: Holidays honor people or events. If you could create a new holiday, what persons or event would it honor and how would you want people to celebrate it? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
On holiday people can feel relaxed, come out of the daily work burden and do some new work that the person can not do during the routine days. Every country has special holidays. In my country India, we also have many holidays. Some are dedicated to the persons who dedicated their to our country’s good effort. Some holidays are to satisfy as culture, religious aspect. If I get a chance to create a holiday, it would be a special day a “World Environment Day” Because the world is now over polluted.
The environment problems in the world are growing rapidly. There are many types of pollution like air pollution, water pollution in the world.
First of all we discuss about the air pollution. The world Health Organization report says that about two million people die prematurely every year as a result of air pollution, while many more suffer from breathing ailments, hearts disease, lung infection and even cancer. There are four main reasons of air pollution- emissions from vehicles, thermal power plants, industries and refineries. The problem of indoor air pollution in rural areas and urban is also increasing, this is due to poor ventilation and use smoke emitted fuels such as wood and coal.
Similarly, Water pollution is another big problem. It is a world wide problem. More than 14000 people die daily by the water pollution. The main sources of water pollution are chemical, pathogen and substance. Water Pollution not only affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water but also it affects our life.
The United Nation has dedicated a day to celebrate the world environment on 5th June. If we have a holiday on “World Environment Day” then we could do many thing like use public transport, buy eco-friendly things, save electricity, plant a tree, avoid wasting stationary, say no to using and exchanging polythene bags and also play part in the global warming drive in our city.
In conclusion, a holiday as a “World Environment Day” will be a big day to celebrate. Anything that affect nature will directly affect us. We do not need to be a part of a big group to save the environment. Every individual can make a difference in small but important ways. We can play an important role in the chain of events right from home, School or work.
