Topic: Is it more important to keep old friends or to make new ones?

Hi Kitos. Thank you for reviewing my essay. Hope the best for you.
There is an ongoing debate as to whether it is more important to keep old friends than to make new ones or not. Some people argue that it is essentially important to keep old friends, while others hold to the position that it is more important to make new friends. From my point of view, the opinion that keeping old friends is more important than it is to make new friends is arguable and exposed to be questioned. The reasons given below will strengthen my viewpoint.

First, as people moves gradually from one phase of life into another, it is general phenomenon that they will find themselves in a completely new environment. Under those circumstances, one should make more efforts to make new friends than to cling to old friends. For example, as a freshman at a university, one needs and has to make new friends in that completely new environment with no old friends in sight. If one refuses to make new friends and only prefers to keep old friends, chances are good that not only can he make no new friends, but he can either keep former relationship with old friends as a result of the gap due to totally different environment and experiences.

Second, even if one still has old friends in good company, one had better not decline the possiblity of making new friends. For when it comes to socializing, the principle is the more, the better. Admittedly, however, the qualitities and characteristics of new acquaintances need to be taken into consideration when one chooses to make friends with them. Making new friends who are beneficial and can have a positive influence to you should undoubtedly be given good consideration, for with more friends you can expand your horizen and vision through mutual promotion and progress.

Third, during the process of adapting quickly to a new environment or making new friends, one should not completely ignore the old friends, for they after all know the person better and more objectively. Moreover, the person in turn is more comfortably at home with old friends after all. Hence, old friends are an invaluable and indispensable part in one’s life.

Taking into account all those perspectives, we can draw the conclusion that it is too rash and one-sided to judge one’s value over the other’s. In essence, those two aspects should be attached equal importance as they are both precious parts in life.
