top half

Hi,
“He’s half English you know - probably his top half to be honest…” – do they imply looks or…?
Thank you.

This needs to be interpreted in a fuller context. The quote that I found is:

"Arsenal are still waiting for Jack Wilshere to return to the starting line-up, but there is one sprightly number 10 with a wand of a left foot who may be playing at the Emirates tonight - Schalke’s Lewis Holtby.

He’s half English you know - probably his top half to be honest - and he told us here at BBC Sport this week that is his dream to play in the Premier League.

Let’s see if this boy can play."

My guess is that the writer is joking that English players don’t have much skill, so his “wand of a left foot” (and his footballing skills generally, which would reside in the lower half of his body) are not likely to be English.
