tombola and raffle what's the diffence really?

Hi everyone,

Tombola and raffle have more or less the same purpose: raising money for a particular cause. But what is the real difference between them? Can you use both words interchangeably?

Hi Beeesneees,

  • A tombola is a game. I checked OALD-online which defines it as such.
  • A raffle is a way of making money for a particular organisation or project.

There is a difference in meaning, so in my opinion, you can’t use them interchangeably.
Is my reasoning correct?
I’m not asking questions to which I already seem to know the answer, but I feel very insecure sometimes. Perhaps it’s irritating, if so, I’m sorry. :slight_smile:
