TOEFL sample essay: stress and its causes

Task:
In our live, we have a lot of things to do, try to strive for mastery to succeed in job, study, family…. And I think that all of us face different challenges and obstacles, and sometimes the pressure is has overwhelmed, everything becomes overloaded to us. Everyone may show a different sign or symptom of stress, depending on their temperament and life situation. It’s important for you to know whether you are exhibiting a stress symptom because stress can lead to ulcers, insomnia, heart disease as well as relationship problems. If we don’t have good health, wonderful mind, we fail and our lives will be hell. Do you know what reason causes? It is stress. In my opinion, stress is one of the biggest difficulties that we have to face and I think that if we can overcome it we are successful.

First of all, do you how what stress is? In these following sentences, I will show you about stress. In my opinion, stress is an emotional and physical reaction to change. Others’ ideas say that “stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand and it can be caused by both good and bad experiences.” I think that people are correct. Instance, when faced with a threat, whether to our physical safety or emotional equilibrium, the body’s defenses kick into high gear in a rapid. We all know what this stress response feels like: heart pounding in the chest, muscles tensing up, breathes coming faster, every sense on red alert. Moreover, when we feel stressed by something going on around us, our bodies react by releasing chemicals into the blood. According to my knowledge, chemicals give us more energy and strength, which can be a good thing if our stress is caused by physical danger. However, this can also be a bad thing, if our stress is in response to something emotional and no outlet for this extra energy and strength. In your opinion, what do you thing about effects of stress, it causes bad or good response to our bodies? Objectively, stress can be positive and give us energy or it can be unhealthy and cause health problems. Now we will discuss different causes of stress, how stress affects you, the difference between ‘good’ or ‘positive’ stress and ‘bad’ or ‘negative’ stress, and some common facts about how stress affects people, our bodies, all of aspects of our lives today.
Do you know how and where stress comes from? Causes of stress vary from person to person. May different things can cause stress. It can come from physical (when we must face things what they never want to meet such as fear of something dangerous). And it is also emotional, feelings such as worry over our family or job, especially failure in loving, career…furthermore; some common causes of stress can be a death of a family member, illness, taking care of your family, relationship changes, work, job change, moving and money. Even small things such as long waits or delays or traffic can cause stress. Some of the most common sources of stress are:
Do you know major life cause stress? It can be, the pressures and demands that cause stress are known as stressors. We usually think of stressors as being negative, such as an exhausting work schedule or a rocky relationship. In my experiences, Major life events are stressors. It means something special happen suddenly and we can not adapt with soon period time. For example, a child must go along with his parents come to another city, when they are in new city, a child must study a new school too. He can not have any friend to talk and everyone differ from his old city, he feel terrible and awful, he is afraid of meeting every body, and he doesn’t want to come to school any more. In addition, if we live in Iraq or an insecure society, a country is happening war, I am sure that we have survival stress. When we are afraid that someone or something may physically hurt you, our body naturally responds with a burst of energy so that we will be better able to survive the dangerous situation or escape it all together.
• How have you heard daily causes, difficulties cause stress? Others may disagree, but I believe that they are main reasons make us stressful. They may include environmental stress, fatigue and overwork, family and relationship, social problems. For this matter, I will show you some evidences to make their effects more clearly. This is a response to things around you that cause stress, such as noise, crowding, and pressure from difficulties from work or family. Moreover, I mean that an unsafe neighborhood, pollution, noise (sirens keeping you up at night, a barking dog next door), and uncomfortable living conditions. Second, Problems with friends, romantic partners, and family members are common daily stressors. In family, a husband and a wife often have marital disagreements, rebellious teens or a child with special needs, financial problem. Further, we always live with everyone, our relatives peacefully avoid unnecessary contradictions if we can not, can all send stress levels skyrocketing if we can not adjust and solve them successfully. At the matter stands it is the family and relationship stressors. Third, stress builds up over a long time and can take a hard toll on your body. It can be caused by working too much or too hard at your job(s), school, or home… In addition, I think that work can be an ever-present source of stress. Work stress is caused by things such as job dissatisfaction, an exhausting workload, insufficient pay, office politics, and conflicts with your boss or co-workers. They can also be caused by not knowing how to manage our time well or how to take time out for rest and relaxation. Finally, our social situation can cause stress. For example, poverty, financial pressures, racial and sexual discrimination or harassment, unemployment, isolation, and a lack of social support all take a toll on daily quality of life. Nowadays, the price of oil and petrol rise up very fast and unstably, and the government can not control. The lives of citizens become more and more difficult; they have a lot of the worries of everyday life. They become tired of and thoughtful, and I think that it is also a reason make us stressful.
• Stress can occur other kind, is internal stress. Have you ever caught yourself worrying about things you can do nothing about or worrying for no reason at all? Internal stress is when people make themselves stressed. This often happens when we worry about things we can’t control or put ourselves in situations we know will cause us stress. Moreover, we must recognize the fact that some people become addicted to the kind of hurried, tense, lifestyle that results from being under stress. They even look for stressful situations and feel stress about things that aren’t stressful. It depends on mental ability of a person. If he/she has strong mind, he/she can control thought and feelings. If people who are sensitive easily get stress from terrible big pictures in our real lives.
Stress can cause both mental and physical symptoms. The effects of stress are different for different people. Do you know and which way do you recognize a person get stress through signs and symptoms? I am studying the psychological class, and I will give you something to discuss? To start with getting a handle on stress, we first need to learn how to recognize it in ourselves. Stress affects the mind, body, and behavior in many ways— all directly tied to the physiological changes of the fight-or-flight response. The specific signs and symptoms of stress vary widely from person to person. Some people primarily experience physical symptoms, such as low back pain, stomach problems, and skin outbreaks. In others, the stress pattern centers on emotional symptoms, such as crying jags or hypersensitivity. For still others, a change in the way we think or behave predominates. Moreover, everyone may show a different sign or symptom of stress, depending on their temperament and life situation. My mother says that “If you have a physical stress symptom, such as poor concentration, you may feel tempted to self-medicate by eating junk food. People who show the physical stress symptom of fatigue may turn to caffeine or sugar to lift their spirits and give them energy”. My mother is a nurse of a small hospital. For example, when we get stress, we will find that stress closely related to anxiety is an emotional disorder, however, and is characterized by feelings of apprehension, uncertainty, fear, or panic. I think on this point we all agree that anxiety disorders have numerous physical complaints, such as headaches, gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, and chest pain. Severe cases of anxiety disorders are debilitating, and interfere with career, family, and social spheres. Physical stress symptom list includes a few of the most common signs of stress experienced by everyday people: skin problems, poor concentration, sleep deprivation, mood swings, low self esteem, exhaustion, poor memory, changes in appetite and muscle tension. I read the book (in chapter 13 of introduction to psychology 6th, ), it means that when people who get stress express “physical signs on their stress symptom list: sleeplessness, sweaty palms, indigestion, sleep too much, fatigue, tight muscles, diarrhea, tight stomach pain, heart pounding, holding breath, skin breaks out, cold hands, shortness of breath headaches and nausea.” Through emotion or feelings of people we can recognize stress such as irritability, nervousness, moodiness, hostility, depression, anxiety, seriousness, poor and irrational judgment and mistakes in easy computation. And I think the way we can reduce kind of this stress is to refresh ourselves with a decent meal or nap. Other sign is mental stress. Some people say they can’t concentrate or forget things due to stress. A major mental stress symptom is negative self-talk. A less obvious mental stress symptom is being disorganized or unkempt. According to your ideas, do you think it correct? And I am sure that you have to say “yes” because I believe all of us sometime got it before or will get it later. In the last place, stress occurs, exists four forms and signs and symptoms. They are cognitive symptoms (inability to concentrate, anxious or racing thoughts…), emotional Symptoms (moodiness, restlessness…), physical symptoms (headaches, muscle tension…) and behavioral symptoms (sleeping to much, using alcohol, cigarettes…).
Do you have experience to reduce or avoid stress in your studying or your life? I have little knowledge and experience to reduce it. If you have or don’t have experience, we discuss to find the way helps us have comfortable lives. To most effectively manage our stress, first identify if the stress is external or internal. If the stress is internal, we have all the power to eliminate the stress by making our perceptions, feelings and thoughts more positive. Firstly, I think that we can cope with stress and defeat it by learning to have a sense of humor. That is to say learning to tolerate others and forgive to reduce stress. it’s the most important way to reduce stress and start on the path of loving one’s self. What is more you can reduce stress by taking vacations and days off to reduce stress or Enjoying hobbies and taking a mental escape by watching a movie or Doing something that relaxes us such as: deep and slow breathing, stretching exercises, yoga, a massage, meditation, listening to music, reading, a hot bath or shower. Especially, we can learn to accept things that you cannot change. It is necessary to avoid thinking so much. Another way to reduce stress is through communication. Talk to a friend, spouse, counselor or pastor to articulate problems. Sometimes we don’t even want to fix a problem. We simply want to reduce our stress and everything bottled up inside by just chatting about anything and everything. It is the way helps us relax and forget everything disordered. Reduce stress by getting regular exercise. Physical activity plays a key role in reducing and preventing the effects of stress. Make time for at least 30 minutes of exercise, three times per week. Nothing beats aerobic exercise for releasing pent up stress and tension. In addition, we also should use our common sense such as reducing caffeine and sugar. The temporary high caffeine and sugar provide often end in with a crash in mood and energy. By reducing the amount of coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, and sugar snacks in your diet, we’ll feel more relaxed and we’ll sleep better. Don’t eat, sleep or exercise in excess. Adequate sleep fuels our mind, as well as our body. Because of feeling tired will increase our stress because it may cause us to think irrationally. These are ways I give to discuss to help us have more ways: first to reduce stress and the second is to cope with stress. If all of you have other good, wonderful ways, opinions, please give us more.
please my check for my composition, and give me my mistakes. Thanks!
