Today is 'a' Tuesday?

Hi,

I have a question on the usage of ‘a’ here:

A: What day is it today?
B: It is a Tuesday.

Do you think ‘It is a Tuesday’ is a right sentence? I thought it would be okay because… ‘a’ here means ‘some, not special, just ordinary’ Tuesday, I guess. What do you think? Is it just a wrong sentence?

Thank you in advance,

Since we mean ‘It is Tuesday today’, there is no need for ‘a’. ‘It is Tuesday’ is correct.
To mean ‘some’, an example like this might help you: My marriage was solemnized on a Tuesday, so Tuesdays have become significant in my life.
