To what extent are people’s buying habits affected by advertising?
Everyone knows that today advertisements appear everywhere, which cause significant effects on the shopping habits of many people. It is claimed that powerful advertise increases the volume of trade in two ways; get people attention by attractive videos and influence by enacted people in the add.
First, nowadays there are more and more advertisements on mass media that people interact with everyday. Practically everyone has TV, Internet and newspapers available in their house. When we go out, our eyes are drawn to a series of billboards, attractive posters all along the street. Those types of advertisement contain words, images ,as well as short messages designed carefully and creatively, which aim at drawing people’s attention. And some people have the habit of buying new things every time. This is because these advertisements illustrate products in graphic detail through photographs and videos. Furthermore, as many customers buy a particular product due to its advertising campaign, the other people may be affected by the trend, even if the product is not of the real needs.
Another reason why people buy product even though it is not needed is because they like the person enacted in that advertisement, that person may be a film actor, model or sports man. For example, I started drinking cola at the age of 12 because one of my favorite actor was enacted in cola advertisement at that time.
On the other hand, some people believe that the add doesn’t affect their buying habits. It is people’s choice to make a decision to buy goods. Individuals have their own spending habits. If a person has got enough disposable Income then he would buy more goods as his requirements and interest. A farmer would not bother to buy an expensive car when there is a need of tractor even after looking at the car advertisement.
In sum, Advertisement naturally influence on buying habits. It informs customers virtually new features of brands or businesses and ultimately to process income .

[Hi S.rao - “to what extent” means “how much” - how much to ads affect people? I think you addressed the prompt pretty well. You have some good ideas and examples, but some of your sentences have some odd phrases and you have some confusing word choices and grammatical errors. Overall, I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

First, nowadays there are more and more advertisements on mass media that people interact with everyday.{two words here} Practically everyone has TV, Internet and newspapers available in their house. When we go out, our eyes are drawn to a series of billboards [and] attractive posters all along the street. Those types of advertisement contain words [and] images ,as well as short messages designed carefully and creatively, which aim at drawing people’s attention. And {avoid beginning sentences with “and” - here you could say “Furthermore”} some people have the habit of buying new things every time [they see these messages]. This is because these advertisements illustrate products in graphic detail through photographs and videos. Furthermore, as many customers buy a particular product due to its advertising campaign, the other people may be affected by the trend, even if the product [does not suit their needs] is not of the real needs. {this “other people” part is confusing}
Another reason why people buy product[s ] even though it is [they are] not needed is because they like the person enacted [acting] in that advertisement,{semicolon} that person may be a film actor, model or sports man{“or star athlete” is better. } For example, I started drinking cola at the age of 12 because one of my favorite actor[s ] was enacted[took part] in a[] cola advertisement at that time.

Thank you very much Luchen.
I have few questions…
1.In the introduction part - influencing their decision by illustrating situations in the ad. I have not detailed anything on this point in body part of this essay. My another reason was 'people buy product because they like the person acting in that ad. How does the introduction line match with body part of the essay.
2. In conclusion- why advertisement is wrong?
I made changes in the conclusion part- In sum, The main object of advertising is basically to attract the customers of the competitors.The advertisers use flashy and attractive ads to make customers take a look on the products and purchase for trials. One more thing is that advertising helps people find the best products for themselves, their kids, and their family. so advertising naturally influences on buying habits.

  1. Yes, you are correct, I corrected your sentence before I read the rest of you essay, so it does not really work. When you talked about “enacted”, that is what I thought you meant. For your introduction sentence, I would probably say “and influenced by the attractive models portrayed in the ads.”

  2. In sum, The main object of advertising is basically to attract the customers of the competitors.The advertisers use flashy and attractive ads to make customers take a look on[at] the products and purchase for trials. {“and purchase them on a trial basis”, but I think it would be better to say “take a look at the products and give them a try”} One more thing[aspect] is that advertising helps people find the best products for themselves, their kids, and their family. so advertising naturally influences on buying habits.
